Terms of use

By using this site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

1. What the site is

This site is a free, independent information tool that presents the federal Sentencing Guidelines in plain language and shows how their arithmetic works. It is run by web developers, not lawyers, and it does not provide legal advice or legal services. The legal disclaimer is part of these terms.

2. No legal advice and no attorney-client relationship

Nothing on the site is legal advice. Using the site or contacting us does not create an attorney-client relationship or any duty of confidentiality. You should not act or refrain from acting on the basis of anything on this site without advice from a qualified lawyer.

3. Your responsibility

You are responsible for how you use the site and its results. Results depend entirely on the answers you enter and are not a prediction of any sentence. Always check the official Guidelines Manual and the relevant statutes, and consult a lawyer about any real case.

4. Accuracy and availability

We try to keep the site accurate and current but do not guarantee that it is complete, correct, current or always available. We may change, correct, suspend or remove any part of the site at any time without notice.

5. Disclaimer of warranties

The site is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

6. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site's owners and contributors will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential or other damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site or from reliance on its content.

7. Acceptable use

Do not use the site for any unlawful purpose, attempt to disrupt it, or present its results as legal advice or as coming from a lawyer. The guidelines text is in the public domain as a U.S. government work; the site's own design, code and explanatory writing may not be republished as your own.

8. Links and advertising

The site links to official sources and may display advertising. We are not responsible for the content of other websites or for advertisers' products or services, and a link or ad is not an endorsement.

9. Privacy

The calculator runs in your browser and does not send what you enter to us. See the privacy page.

10. Changes

We may update these terms. The date below shows when this page was last published, and continued use of the site means you accept the terms as they stand at the time.
